Westchester Black Owned Businesses to Support Before and After Juneteenth

With all the protests and social upheaval that’s been going on in our country as of late, now more than ever an American holiday that’s been celebrated for years is finally getting some more attention – Juneteenth. Never heard of it? That’s okay, because we’re all learning new things nowadays. Juneteenth is the day when the last black slaves in America were freed after the Civil War. You can more about Juneteenth and it’s history here.

While most town celebrations and commemorations will be cancelled this year due to COVID19, there are other ways you can honor the holiday. Support your locally owned black businesses! There are plenty of places around your apartment home that you probably didn’t know were owned by black business owners.

Freckles Juice – Located in City Place, just a few minutes walk from 15 Bank, Freckles Juice is a small, locally Black-owned business that serves up homemade juices and healthy eats. Serving natural juices, smoothies, protein shakes, wellness shots, and even sandwiches and burgers, you can start a whole new nutrition plan without ever ordering from anywhere else!

Caribbean Thyme – Located right on Court Street, Caribbean Thyme is one of a few Caribbean restaurants in White Plains, but this one comes with a chef with over 20 years of cooking experience. Served buffet style, all their ingredients are locally sourced from farmers markets which means you can look forward to fresh seasonal dishes. A perfect spot for lunch or a quick dinner, get a taste of the tropics as you social distance in your apartment this summer.
